And God said, "Let there be Manga. . ."

For this blog, and I apologize in advance that I'm stuck in a Anime/Manga mood, I'm going to write about some really awesome Manga stories I have read.
First off, I LOVE reading! So Manga is freaking great.
Secondly, I love a good romantic story, so I'm always reading cheesy crap. Hehe :)
Thirdly, I'm only going to post the stories I really liked, and none of them are in any particular order. I'm just posting them as I think of them.
Fourthly (this is a long list), THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!
Fifthly, this is going to be a LONG Blog, so don't feel obligated to read it. I'm doing it at work in between calls to kill time :)
Sixthly, these are just SOME of my favorites, and the obviously less well known ones.
So without further ado, I present: Some of my favorite Manga!

7th Period is a Secret
This is an awesome, also very short (3 blissfully adorable chapters), story about a girl named Shun. She used to be very quiet and gloomy and everyone bullied her. Because of this she had no friends. When her family moves she decides to change her appearance and attitude in order to have new friends at her new school. She's able to fool everyone around her with the exception of her teacher, Jun Koshiba. He's a young teacher who all the classmates really like, except Shun. She worries because when he looks at her she can tell he knows she's hiding something.
In a twist, when the class is planning a field trip, Shun ends up as the odd girl out with no partner. This really scares her, and her feelings flash back to when she was at her old school with no friends, and her eyes fill up with tears. Jun, the teachers, says that they will be partners. All the class members laugh and tease Shun that she's going to have to babysit him since he's so childish. She's amazed that the was able to see her fears and understand her feelings.
At the end of the day, she's helping him get ready for the field trip the next day, and she basically snaps. Admitting to him that she used to be unhappy and quiet and demands to know what's wrong with that. He listens and encourages her to tell him more about herself, stating that he wants to be her friend. This makes her really happy because he's the only person to know the real her.
She ends up feeling kind of embarrassed about wanting to eagerly be his friend. But he understands her feelings without her having to explain them so she ends up very excited for the field trip so that she can spend time with him.
While on the field trip, after some things happen, she ends up going to Tokyo Tower with Jun alone on the student free time. By chance they go when it's very busy. They end up stuffed in an elevator with a lot of people. Jun protects Shun with his body, leaning against the wall, putting his back to everyone. They end up standing very close together because of this. Shun realizes that she's excited and nervous because of this but she also realizes that she wishes time would stop so they could stay that close always. She ends up grabbing the end of his shirt, clinging to him while leaning her head on his shoulder.
Once they get to the top of Tokyo Tower the look at the view and relax the mood. Shun thanks Jun for spending time with her and for being her friend. He ends up confiding her that he used to be just like her, when she was quiet and alone. He advises her that he also faked a smile but realized eventually that no one knew the real him because of this. He compliments Shun's good traits, telling her the wonderful things she does even though she's hiding her true self. He tells her that the Shun he knows, the real Shun, is a great person.
His kind words end up making her cry, (she cries a lot fyi). To comfort her he holds her hand while they ride in the elevator as the head back down. He asks her to keep their one-on-one time together a secret between friends. Shun realizes that she doesn't want to share Jun with everyone else and tells him that she only needs him. She tells him plainly that she likes him. She hugs onto his back while confessing to him.
After saying this she realized what just happened and back tracks. She assures him that he's just dependable and asks him to forget what she just said. It's obvious that he's shaken. She feels humiliated and realizes that she's only going to cause problems for him.
After that it shows them back at school. Shun's been avoiding June, since she feels embarrassed and can't act natural. She's thinking about this while walking through the halls of the school. Jun calls to her and catches her from falling down stairs she hadn't noticed since she was deep in thought. He's holding her in his arms and her heart starts pounding. The school Principle happens to see them and demands to know if they have a personal relationship. She tells them that someone say them at Tokyo Tower together. Shun tries to explain but the principle cuts her off. She ends up ripping into Jun, calling him irresponsible and stuff like that. Shun interrupts and explains that nothing happened, she tells the Principle that Jun is her good friend and that he had cheered her up when she wasn't getting along with anyone.
The Principle dismisses them, telling them to avoid such situations again. They walk from the office only to see Shun's friends by the door. They had heard what Shun said and it hurt their feelings. They walk away from her. Jun encourages her to go after them and explain but she's too scared.
You Shun next lying in bed, really upset. Her mom comes in and asks if she's still feeling sick and says that missing 3 days of school is a lot. She tells Shun that her teachers has been calling. Shun continues to feel horrible, thinking that's she too scared to face everyone. She then hears a rock hit her window, then another, and she goes to see what it is. Jun is standing outside her window, one story down.
He tells her that he's worried about her and she needs to come back to school. She says she can't, that she's only troubling him. He demands, now upset, to know what will happen to him then. He tells her that just because he's the teacher he's not ok with everything. He admits that it made him happy when she confessed her feelings to him. He tells her that he wants to see her every day and insists that she come back to school, even if she's scared. He asks her to come to school tomorrow and promises that he'll be waiting for her, then he leaves. Shun, feeling a lot better, decides to go to school so she can see Jun.
When she goes back to school she immediately finds her friends and apologizes to them. They tell her that it made them sad that she didn't confide in them her sadness, telling her they felt bad that she went to their teacher. They reconcile and Shun feels releaved and totally happy.
While in class she realizes that it's all Jun's doing that has made her able to find real friends and true happiness. He smiles at her in class and passes her a note, asking her to meet him for a 7th period class (which they don't have in Japan) on top of the school.
She runs to the roof after class, eager to tell Jun about how happy she is. He's already there waiting for her, and greets her warmly. She tells him again that she likes him. She assures him that he doesn't need to reply but warns him that if she still likes him by the time she graduates that she will confess to him again, and advises him to be ready. She then quickly apologizes, stating that she hopes no one heard.
He tells her that she's always troubling him, and then he kisses her on the forehead. She's surprised by his action but happy. When he pulls back he's blushing really bad and he tells her that she better still like him after graduation.
The last line of the story is: "7th period, it's the beginning of a secret class."

AWWWW! HOW CUTE! . . . I am concerned with the fact that I think, ONLY IN MANGA, that teacher student relationships are romantic. What's up with that? In real life it's freaking gross but not so much in cartoons lol. Sorry that that was WAY long. I just really like that story. It's cute :)

Meru Puri
Now we're going to do another really cute story. Airi, 15, is a normal high school girl who's a romantic. She dreams of finding and marrying a nice guy, getting married, and him being a loving husband. She has a goal, believing it will insure her finding a perfect man, to be on time to school every day. Her clock work schedule gets ruined when one day on the way to school a little boy telaports from her mirror, and heirloom she has, and appears in front of her. His name is Aram. He's a little 12 year old and tells Airi that he's from another world, a magical kingdom. She, thinking he was just a little kid, takes him home with her believing that he's just lost. They have dinner and she makes a bed for him, promising to help him find his parents in the morning. He asks if he can sleep with her and she agrees (this isn't weird for the Japanese culture).
Unfortunately, unknown to them both, before Aram left his kingdom his older brother, who wants to take the throne from Aram, who is heir, put a spell on Aram. Any time Aram is in complete darkness he ages.
When Airi and Aram woke in the morning he was no longer a cute little 12 year old but a very tall handsome 17 year old. Airi freaks out and Aram is spared only by his servant, who uses the mirror as a portal and comes to his aid. The servant explains the situation and advises that the only way to make Aram go normal is if he is kissed by his true love. Aram quickly stated that his love is Airi. She, of course, refuses to kiss him.
He ends up staying with her for a few days, quiet pleased that he's there but sad that she won't kiss him. Eventually, with some prodding from Aram's servant, she agrees. Aram is sad, not wanting to part with her but Airi, taking her ability with a cruel twist, kisses him in order to displease him. Aram returns to his young form and is quickly swifted away back to his magical kingdom.
It doesn't take Airi long to miss him. It also doesn't take Aram's brother to find Airi.
Basically the story continues with them overcoming the troubles of Aram becoming king, Airi adjusting to living in a magical world, and Aram actually being younger than her. She finally accepts his feelings and returns them, enabling them to become betrothed until his is actually 17.
There's a lot of cute moments for them because Aram, desperately in love with Airi, would go into a dark room, grow up, and go and hold Airi in his arms. She in turn, because their relationship made her a little uncomfortable at first, would kiss him, turning him back to normal. Which would make Aram pout because, although he loved receiving her kisses, he hated the fact that he was a little child next to her.
The story ends with their wedding, when Aram is really 17 and Airi is 21. They are to be King and Queen of his magical kingdom.

I really liked this story too. Aram is so adorable :)

Hana Kimi
This is a really cool story about a girl, Ashiya, who is half Japanese half American. She loves doing track and field and watched a well known Japanese high jumper named Sano. She has a lot of respect for him and loves watching him jump because it looks so beautiful. Determined to meet him she finds out what high school he's going to and leaves America to attend school in Japan. The only problem is the school is an all boys school. Ashiya cuts off all her hair and becomes a boy.
(This manga is really long just fyi so I'll REALLY summarize) Basically it works out that they end up as roommates. Their relationship, over a two year period, evolves more and more until Ashiya realizes she's in love with him. It takes Sano kissing her, of his own free will, for her to finally confess her feelings.
But then she is worried because Sano confessed his love so is he gay? And if she tells him the truth about her being a girl would he hate her? The good news is, we, the readers, know that Sano knew the whole time that Ashiya was a girl. So we know he really loves her. It all works out in the end.

I loved the awkward relationship between these two. Sano gets very frustrated whenever Ashiya does something that, as a boy would be fine, but as a girl isn't acceptable. This is actually a REALLY long story but it's way funny and super good.

Hana to Akuma
This is a story that's still being written, but I'm reading it now, each new chapter, and I absolutely love it. It's about a demon from Hell, Vivi, who came to earth because he was bored. He finds a human baby and decides, to kill time, to keep her. All of the servants who live in his home our demons so Hana, the baby, grows up knowing about these things. Hana loves Vivi very much and he treats her like an annoying kid sister but he really cares for her to.
Their relationship is clear to the reader. Although Hana is very young, I think only 15, and Vivi is over 200 years old you can tell that they love each other. Neither of the characters really realize it though. Vivi gets jealous easily and Hana pouts when Vivi is mad at her.
The story, so far, has been about the two of them, with their friends, working through conflicts. From Hana getting hurt, making human friends, Vivi's betrothed coming to visit, and the Demon King, Satan himself, kidnapping Hana to pick on Vivi, who happens to be next in line as King.
Some of the funniest stuff is every now and then someone will slip Hana a potion that makes her grow, turning her into a grown woman. Whenever this happens Vivi doesn't want to look at her, much less touch her, because he's so physically attracted to her that it scares him.
One such time he ended up kissing her on the neck, and then the potion wore off right afterwords, and he was annoyingly reminded that Hana is really a young girl.
Just now in the story Hana stopped Vivi's wedding to his betrothed, begging him not to get married because she loves him. When he told her he knows she loves him she insisted that she's in love with him, shocking Vivi. She tells him that she wants to be his wife. Which, after Satan congratulates Hana on her touching proposal, Hana realizes that she really did propose to Vivi.

This story is so funny and cute. Vivi is a grumpy jerk and is only nice to Hana. Whereas Hana is kind of a naive young thing that's a little stupid lol. I really like it though :)

Dengeki Daisy
This right now, is probably one of my favorite Manga's I've ever read. It's a perfect blend of funny, romantic, serious, and confusing. It's still being written (yay and boo at the same time).
At the start of the story Teru, the main character, is a high school student who's only family member, her brother, died when she was young. His parting gift to her was a cell phone, advising her that the phone was linked to Daisy, a friend of his who had sworn to watch over her. Daisy becomes the older brother Teru has lost and so much more.
Teru confines in Daisy everything, emailing him notices of her daily life. One day, she accidentally breaks a window at school. Later the school Janitor comes and finds her, telling her that since she's poor she can pay for the window by being his slave. The Janitors name is Kurosaki and we, the readers find out very quickly, that he is actually Teru's beloved Daisy.
Kurosaki plays his roles perfectly. In person he teases Teru cruelly, making fun of her lack of breasts and all. As Daisy he emails Teru his true feelings, telling her how much he thinks of her and what a wonderful good person she is. The reader still doesn't know why Kurosaki was asked to look over Teru but it has been mentioned a few times that it's his fault Teru's brother died. Because of this Kurosaki tries to keep a certain distance from Teru emotionally but fails miserably as you see that she is already his everything.
Teru, in turn, falls in love with Kurosaki, despite his mean behavior she's able to see genuine kindness in his eyes when he looks at her. She confides in Daisy, telling him that she's fallen in love, only troubling Kurosaki further as he now knows Teru returns his feelings.
The story also revolves around all sorts of trouble. Teru is constantly under attack because her brother was a computer genius and worked on many programs which, when he died, no one was able to find. Everyone then assumes Teru knows. Kurosaki is always kept busy protecting her, as both Daisy and himself.

*Sigh* I love this story. It's so cute and super funny. I can't wait for more chapters. As sad as this sounds I really wish it was finished so I could know what happens!

Well, I think that's it for now. This has taken A LONG time and I'm sure no one will read it, which honestly I'm ok with. But, when you spend 8 hours in front of the computer all day for work, you have to do what you have to do!
